Who is this tiny little town in Croatia’s Istrian region liking all my Tweets? I remember the morning I typed “Žminj” into Google Maps and thought to myself, “When would I ever visit Žminj? It’s in the sticks!” Well, the invite came and my presumptions couldn’t be more wrong.
Casa Matiki is an idyllic bed and breakfast with great appeal for anyone seeking a semi-secluded location in Croatia’s Istrian region, only 1km away from Zminj town centre. Set on over 5 hectares of land, Casa Matiki’s owner Sonja Glavic-Krivicic is a woman well into her retirement years with no plans of retiring, and who could blame her? This is clearly a woman who has found her forte.
I often get asked about where to eat in zagreb. Since it's the captial city of Croatia, you can expect a wider range of restaurants to choose from. It’s no secret that I love food and have accumulated the reputation for dining at some of the Croatia's best restaurants. We all know that I love Takenoko in Zagreb but sushi is not quite Croatian cuisine and let’s be real, I can’t and don’t eat sushi everyday. There’s a little secret I’ve been keeping from you and I kind of know where the best Dalmatian Zagora restaurant in Zagreb is, it’s Konoba Didov San.
Why Zinfandel’s Restaurant in Zagreb does not have a Michelin Star in Croatia in 2019, I’ll never understand. In my opinion, it is much better than Noel. Located on the ground floor of Zagreb's most luxurious hotel, The Esplanade, Zinfandel's is the type of restaurant that requires your finest outfit. It's stylish, elegant and romantic, the perfect dinner date for two or ideal location to seal the deal with a new client. No other establishment in Zagreb can compare to The Esplanade, it's simply in a league of it's own. It's also one of my favourite places go stop by for a coffee (they also have the best hot chocolate during the christmas period) and having dinner there with my husband became increasingly higher on my to-do list.
Ron Gastrobar is not your typical Michelin Star restaurant, it is not a fine dining experience compared to the likes of Alain Ducasse or Steirereck at Stadtpark. It's the polar opposite: A calm, contemporary setting with fine modern interior and an open kitchen. It screams more high end steakhouse than fine dining. It really is the most unconventional Michelin Star restaurant I've ever been to, one filled with unexpected surprises.
